4 Home Maintenance Tips for Fall

A new season is approaching, and it’s a great time to prepare your homes for the winter months! When you set your clocks back on November 5th, remember to complete the following home maintenance tasks:

Test Smoke Detectors
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommends testing your smoke alarms each month and replacing the batteries at least once a year.
Check Outdoor Lighting
Inspect all the wiring and light bulbs on your outdoor lighting. With less daylight, proper lighting outside can help ensure safety and security.
Adjust Timers
Outdoor lighting timers, pool pumps and yard sprinklers need to be seasonally adjusted.
Block Out Pests
When temperatures drop, rodents and no-see-ums seek out warm places to hunker down (just like us). But unlike us, many of them can fit through holes the size of a quarter. Take this opportunity to give the exterior of your home—and especially your roof—a once-over. Replace damaged tiles and attic vents, and seal any holes around pipes and cables that run into your house.
